Tourist Police 1155
Posted On Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at by tomwangTiaw Thai fair or "Travel Thailand fair" was held in Central World this week. It is organized by Tourist Police Division. The purpose of this fair is to promote tourism in Thailand and to improve the economy situation through tourism.
Tourist police in Thailand work separately to the normal police. Their main responsibilities are:
- To prevent crimes and protect the benefits of both Thai and foreign tourists.
- To support and coordinate with government and other organizations regarding tourism activities.
The uniform and vehicle of tourist police is also different to those of normal police as you can see in the pictures. Top picture is their cute mascot boy and girl in the uniform and below is their vehicle that is quite easy to spot. If you have any troubles about getting around while you are traveling or you think you are cheated by any mean, 1155 (tourist police) is the number you can call for help. There will be someone who speaks good English and also some European languages to assist you.

WOW fact#3: the most colorful taxi
Posted On Monday, October 13, 2008 at by tomwangIf you have ever visited Bangkok, you probably saw already that hundreds of taxis waiting for a passenger at some specific places. It is because Bangkok has policy to set no quota for the number of taxi, so more and more people become a taxi driver here. Research found that the number is increasing about 200 taxis per month.
However, this is not I want to talk about here, rather, I want to show that taxis in Bangkok are very unique with different colors for different one. The colors will represent each company that own the car, except that yellow-green taxis are individually owned (unless it is sold to a car dealer).
It is quite exciting for me to see this kind of taxi, just because I never saw it somewhere else. At the time I just came to Bangkok, I even tried not to get on the cab with the same color. Anyway, a little thing you should be careful when you get on a taxi here is to make sure that the driver use meter every time. If you are a foreigner, some of them might try to call for an expensive rate without using the meter.
